Every now and again you meet someone who is determined to succeed, even when faced with what others might consider insurmountable barriers.

Margi Inskeep is one such person.

Diagnosed with a serious heart condition, Margi is  determined to lead a normal life.  She loves being around people, has a taste for quality products, and the ability to build good relationships, so retailing seemed a natural choice.

Unfortunately for Margi, fulltime work was not an option as her health deteriorated and meant that she had to take too much time of work.

After a year of balancing her health and medication, Margi decided it was time to try again.  She enrolled on the Retailing in the BOP programme, and started training at the Rotorua Warehouse.  It took a few different tries to find out the best working hours for Margi, but she persevered until she got it right.

Her work placement co-coordinator at The Warehouse, Hemoata, is more than satisfied with Margi's performance.  "She may only be able to work 4 or 5 hours in a shift, but her performance in that time is of a really good standard.  She knows what she is doing, is good at it; and perhaps because she knows that she is only here for a few hours, is determined to make those hours count."

Margi herself, has come a long way: "I have found this course quite good, better then I thought, not just educational but on a personal side too, I have learnt a lot about my self and have become more aware of changes and improvement in myself I needed to make to get anywhere".

Her tutor, Trudi Haack, is particularly proud of Margi's achievements, saying "Margi is a quiet achiever.  She doesn't brag about what she can do, but what she does is of a consistently good standard.  She has a lovely manner that makes her very easy to work with, however one of the best things I have noticed about Margi is her determination and persistence.  She knows what she wants, and quietly works away until she finds out how to get there.  She is open and honest about her physical limitations, but doesn't let them hold her back.  In fact, her attendance on the course has been excellent, as has her participation in the activities, both theory and practical."

Margi is now preparing for work, and looking for a part-time retail position as she nears the completion of the course.  We look forward to seeing what she will achieve.
