Success Story: Bryce
Riding his way into employment.
fter five years of no employment, transport or cellphone and with a CV that was outdated, Bryce was struggling to keep his confidence and motivation in his search for a job.
Bryce was interviewed for the Employment Placement Service here at EmployNZ and was accepted to start the one on one coaching programme to help assist him back into the workforce.
“Bryce was very reliable and was always turning up to his appointments with us, and turning up early too. He acknowledged that he required a cellphone so employers could contact him and was motivated to update his CV accordingly.” Phil, EPS Team leader.
After a few weeks of goal setting, looking at previous work history, talking through what he can and can’t do, barriers that were currently in the way of a successful employment outcome, Bryce and the EPS team were able to start the process of profiling him to employers.
The journey was not a smooth sailing one however! A job was identified that would be a good option for Bryce at a local factory as a night cleaner. This was within walking/biking distance from Bryce’s house and after profiling him he was successful in obtaining the position. Unfortunately after the induction, Bryce received an injury to his arm the day before he was due to start the full time role and would not be able to start for another month. The job fell through.
Bryce was not going to stop there though, he was dedicated and upbeat to continue and was profiled again, once he had recovered, to a local commercial cleaning company called SupaClean. An interview was set up and he was coached through some key questions and after a follow up discussion with the employer Bryce was offered the position and Work and Income also assisted with help in purchasing a bike and work clothes to start him in his employment.
In follow up with Bryce he stated, “My employer is very happy and has received some great compliments on the quality of my work. Now I am back working I have a lot more self-esteem and confidence and I am very happy. A big thanks to EmployNZ for the service and support that you gave me.”
